Lucas is CEO of Cuddle Up For A Cause. He's 11 years old, and was diagnosed with low-functioning Autism soon after his second birthday. As the years went on, several other diagnoses were received – Epilepsy, ADHD, OCD and Sensory Processing Disorder.
Lucas attends the Faison School for Autism in Richmond. He absolutley adores school! Above anything else, Lucas is an admirer of Thomas The Tank Engine and Disney movies. He is an athlete on the Colonial Heights Special Olympics team, participating in Bowling and Track & Field competitions.
Karen is Lucas' mom, and CPO (Chief Production Officer) for Cuddle Up For a Cause. Her advocacy resides in a strong passion to help others who don’t have a voice. She is the first one to tell you, “It’s not about Lucas; it’s about speaking up for all individuals and the families impacted.”
Karen spends time working with lawmakers and making speaking appearances on different topics, such as resources, impacts to the family, how to be the best advocate, etc. Her favorite activity is working with the caretakers, parents, and siblings of the individuals impacted by Autism. While it can be a complicated system and difficult working through the emotions of it, it is increbily rewarding for Karen.
What We Do
Cuddle Up For A Cause is the business Karen and Lucas created together. Karen combined her love for crafts with the need to help offset the cost of Lucas' care. The team specializes in making handmade products of all types, and Lucas plays at least one role in creating everything they make.
While 90% of the profits are to care for Lucas, Cuddle Up for a Cause contributes 10% of its proceeds to a local Autism resource, where that money is given back to our local Central Virginia area.
Cuddle Up travels to various events / conventions / etc. each year to share their story, raise awareness, and meet thousands of new people. Hopefully, you're one of those folks that has decided to check out our online presence and will give us a like and share our site to all of your friends!
